My grumble factor about one of my hosting providers is getting higher. I have had a series of exchanges with them about the possibility of upgrading their mySQL servers to one that is more current (and one that supports activeCollab and SugarCRM). The saga continues…
First, they sent me a link to what versions they currently have installed (which I already knew from a previous support exchange but it was nice to have listed). Then they sent me this cryptic reply to a question that I sent to them regarding if it would be possible to upgrade in the future.
Dear Michael,
Thank you for contacting us.
We cannot change it or update it.
That will be then the version for the MySQL database as of the period. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

HUH?
Brings back memories of the “All your base are belong to us” fun of some time ago.
So, does this response basically mean that 1and1 will NEVER upgrade their systems? Help me figure this out. I’m also thinking about starting (or participating in) a petition to let 1and1 know that they need to get with the times! (I’m in the process of porting activeCollab over to my other provider, Dreamhost).

Well, I ported my 1and1 install of activeCollab to dreamhost and all is working well on the new version. I also did a domain repoint…from 1and1 to dreamhost.
The new version of activeCollab does look like a nice upgrade. I will wait until the full upgrade to comment on it in more detail.
