Mother’s Day or Any Day: HyperShop Pearl Compact USB Rechargeable Battery Pack is a Winner

The HyperShop Pearl is a stylish & useful compact mirror with a built in 3000 mAh battery pack & LED light ring. A great gift!

Are you looking for that perfect gift for the woman (mom, wife, sister or girl friend) in your life? Do they carry a cell phone, tablet, or eBook reader? What about a compact mirror? Well, the folks over at HyperShop have come up with a product that I feel could be a winner. They have combined a compact mirror with a 3000 mAh battery (that’s a pretty good capacity – able to charge your smart phone at least once). The result? A stylish compact mirror that has an LED ring backlight, a normal mirror and a 3x (magnifying) mirror, AND a USB battery that can charge up your devices. I wasn’t sure how big of a bang this would be until I let my family play around with it (4 women – 3 daughters and my wife). Read on to find out what I and they think about the HyperShop Pearl.

The HyperShop Pearl was originally launched as a Kickstarter campaign (which was then moved over to Indiegogo). On Indiegogo, it raised over $87,000 in backing with over 1700 funders contributing to the campaign. The campaign was 778% funded in January 2015.

Fast forward to today, and the HyperShop Pearl is now available. And I think it will be a hot gift for Mother’s Day, birthdays, as gifts or just in general for that on-the-go woman.

For starters the HyperShop Pearl comes in three colors: Gold, Silver and Red. Each of my daughters had a different preference for one reason or another. Each color selection comes in the appropriately matched box.

What’s in the box? Well, you get:

  • The Pearl mirror
  • A soft carrying case which is color matched to the Pearl
  • A 3-in-one small USB charging cable (more about that later)
  • Instruction manual

On the side of the HyperShop Pearl, there are 4 important things:

  1. Button – Pressing this button once displays the charge level of the 3000 mAh battery; pressing the button twice turns on or off the LED light ring around the mirror.
  2. USB port – this is the port you plug your USB cable into in order to charge your device. This is a 5V/2.1A output USB port.
  3. Micro USB port – this is the port where you charge the 3000 mAh battery. It is 5V/1A.
  4. 4 lights – these lights indicate the battery level.

So how well does the HyperShop Pearl work? I let my girls figure out just exactly what it could do. For starters, the LED light ring works quite well, bright enough to see the face in a darkened room. My daughters also definitely liked having two types of mirrors, a regular one and a 3X magnified one. However, I think the biggest thing for them was the battery built into the compact. With the included cable (and do note, it is short so that it can be carried around in the soft case which has a pocket specific for the cable), you can charge almost everything. It has a Micro USB connector, the older iPod/iPhone connector and the new iPhone Lightning connector. You can, of course, supply your own USB cable. But the included one is pretty darn useful.

My kids immediately started experimenting with the charging capabilities. And, they found that you could actually charge three devices at once using the included cable. I’m not sure if this is “officially” supported or not, but our quick tests (as can be seen in the picture below), seem to have worked.

Above you can see an older iPhone, a new iPhone and a Kindle being charged via the battery in the HyperShop Pearl. My girls also discovered that if you plug the HyperShop Pearl into a charger and then connect a device to the other USB port, you can charge the Pearl AND charge the other connected device at the same time. Again, I don’t know if this is supported or not but it seemed to work.

You can use the included 3-in-1 cable to also charge the HyperShop Pearl’s battery. Just plug the Micro USB into the Pearl and the other end into a wall charger or your computer, and the battery will charge.

The HyperShop Pearl comes in a simple yet elegant box, appropriate to the color of the Pearl.

The retail price for the HyperShop Pearl is $39.95 which I feel is pretty reasonable for just a battery pack alone. If you throw in the additional functionality, I think it is a pretty good deal. It’s also available on Amazon for $39.95 and as of this writing, supplies are limited (hint hint, this is a really good gift).

So, if you are looking to give that special someone a very practical yet stylish gift, definitely check out the HyperShop Pearl!
